Maybe we are wearing our feelings a bit on our sleeves, but honestly it feels like we are experiencing alot of prejudice these days against our family for the number of children we have.
We are still in search of a rental place for our family. We've been at this for a month now, and heard endless No's from landlords.
There are certainly a lot of places vacant out there. From Sooke to Shawnigan Lake, Langford to Sidney and out to Salt Spring Island. And the ones we looked at in August are still vacant this month, for the most part.
They all want your money, until you mention that the 'large family' that you have is actually 7 children (we don't even explain that we have 2 older ones, because we don't want to overload their minds). I realize they have a difficult time computing that.
"You probably need a much bigger place than this." (Well, we were looking at your rental because we thought it actually would suit our family just fine, Thanks.)
"I don't think this would be big enough for you, then." (What, aren't we able to make that decision for ourselves, that you must make that call on our behalf?)
The other day I was totally irked (pissed maybe?) when a fella said, "I was thinking about how many (ppl) there are, and I think I'd have to raise the rent for you....." and then he was saying how the last renters (3 ppl) water bill was actually $180 for 2 months and ours would likely be much larger than that, and so he wanted to raise the rent.
Excuse Me??!!!!
I said it would be understandably fair to discuss the water bill in 'actuality' rather than assuming that we would use more water. We'd be willing to pay the difference, or what the actual water bill was, etc., but I resented the assumption that it would go up higher just because there were 3 times more of us than the previous renters, and therefore he wanted to raise the rent.
Then he said, (which was likely more the truth rather than the water excuse) "Well, there would be more wear-and-tear on the house and property with all those kids." Granted, that is a reasonable comment and assumption. But still an assumption. It is assumed that children are harder on things than adults. But we all know adults who are messier and rougher than children. And we know families with only 1 or 2 children who are messier, rougher, more destructive than larger families.
Another excuse has been 'thats too many for the septic'.
I think that's hog-wash. (Okay.....that's my own assumption.) It is reasonable to think that houses that are built with 4 bedrooms would automatically have a septic system that could handle 8 people (that's only 2 people per bedroom). That's 8 people. Oh, golly, 9 of us (of which only 2 of us are adults) all of a sudden makes it too much volume on the septic system. One must never have guests come and stay, or at least hope they are constipated!!!
And then I've read really weird ads on craigslist and kijiji. Like somebody renting out a 3 bedroom place, blah blah blah, maximum occupancy is 2. Hello? It's got 3 bedrooms. What is that wasted space supposed to be used for? What reasoning is that?
I don't get it. Maybe I'm not thinking for myself here. Can somebody help me with that reasoning???? 3 bedrooms for 2 people maximum. Hmmmm?
One fella called us a couple of days after we viewed his home for rent, to let us know that he'd been thinking about it (hope he didn't lose any sleep over it) and decided that his house really wasn't going to work for us. Thanks, man. We couldn't decide that for ourselves! (Jeesh, maybe that's why we hadn't phoned him back to put in an application. You think? Obviously, we can't think for ourselves. But then, that's probably why we ended up with so many children. We didn't think!!)
Ok, I'm ticked off.
I know that we could live in a small house, even 1500 sq feet or less. We truly don't own so much stuff any more so a larger house will sound hollow. But we've been looking at bigger not because we need the space, but because the landlords basically are insisting on it. They assume we live like the average American (x3 for all the children) so we need more space. And we waste water & electricity like the rest of the average.
I'm tempted to lie about how many children we have so we can rent a more appropriate house for our family and the simple lifestyle, and save some money.
Argh.

My Morning Routine
Ok, 'routine' might not be completely accurate as with still having littles at my feet can make it difficult to get everything I hope to do for myself accomplished in an orderly manner consistently first thing in the morning. But 'routine' is the best word I can think to use that is, well, understandable.
(Sorry, Beatrix, that its taken so long to get around to posting my 'routine', but better late than never, huh?)
~I get out of bed anywhere from 5:30-7am. I think it should be more consistent, but because we still have Littles my sleep is often disturbed so I allow myself the freedom to stay in bed longer some mornings when the Littles also allow it. My sleep & quality is really random at this stage in life, and I have to Go With The Flow. Some mornings, like today, I can successfully sneak out of bed about 4:30am and go unnoticed by Laars, but many mornings I lay awake in bed meditating/praying so not to disturb sleeping boys.
~ Potty Break! Some mornings I do an enema to help my body eliminate from the nights cleansing. This isn't on any kind of 'schedule'. I do it as I feel (intuitively) that my body wants/needs it, and as time permits
~Body Scrub (the T-Tapp way) to help with elimination, and improve circulation to skin
~Brush hair with firm brush (or you could use a wooden comb) to get tangles out, then scrub scalp & clean hair with a Boar Bristle Brush to improve circulation and distribute natural oils for healthy hair. This needs to be done in small sections, methodically working over my skull. I have found I can't use the Boar Bristle Brush alone as it would take infinity to work out the knots in my thick hair. That's why I start with a stiff brush.
~Scrub Face (with a softer brush than a body brush) vigorously to improve circulation, gently exfoliate. At same time I do some face squints and stretches for toning.
~Spray body, face and hair with homemade blend of essential oils in water. I just put water in a small spray bottle and add EO's as I like, but usually some blend including (or even solely) cinnamon as I like a spicy smell versus flowery. I often use lavender, or geranium, but never leave out my cinnamon. Endless possibilities.
~Apply jojoba oil to my face and neck for moisture and sun-protection (SPF 4)
~Do Hoe-Downs
~Drink at least 1 glass (if not 2 glasses) of filtered water
~Putter in the kitchen and help littles with their own morning 'routines'
~Drink a glass of fresh juice (if Chelle or Everette make it), or make myself a glass of water with 1 oz aloe vera gel, juice of one lemon, a tsp or so of unpasteurized honey, maybe a pinch of cayenne pepper
~If I'm feeling ravenous (which isn't often, especially when I've drank enough fluids), I will eat an apple (or Laars' leftover apple cores with lots of flesh still on them) OR our version of Muesli..... I soak about 1/2 cup of organic rolled oats with hot water, add a couple chopped dates, some goji berries and a few shakes of unsweetened coconut.
~Then its usually time for cuddles with little ones and maybe do some reading with them, or sit & have a discussion with Everette or read aloud with him. This is our Connection Time, if the littles allow it ;) or we fit it in some other time of the day.
I'll try and post an Evening Routine later.

Pee in the Shower
Ok, here's a cute tip from Skinny Bitch. A simple way to save water ;)
Pee in the shower.
How simple is that? It's really not a big deal, while you have the water running anyways.

Do You Have a "Nature Deficiency" ?
I think The Health Ranger, Mike Adams, is my favorite on-line writer about issues pertaining to health. I've shared his thoughts before, and here is another article I wanted to share with you. It is something I definitely have a deficiency in, and I get chilled just thinking of going outside here today on Cape Breton. Seems the older I get, the more I hate to be cold.
I'm still dreaming of a warmer location to reside in, and a huge part of the reason for that is because of the health benefits that are easier to attain there.
Anyways, here's the article by Mike. Not really anything profound.....just common sense that no longer is common!
Heal yourself in 15 days by correcting your "nature deficiency" (part nine)
I'd also add that sleeping with our windows open can certainly improve our health and sleep. When we sleep with the windows and doors closed, we are obviously breathing in stale air all night long. When our body is in a prime cleansing cycle, we should be aiding it in its job by providing fresh live air. You'll have a better sleep, and wake up totally refreshed.

Taste and See
Have you heard: Taste and see that the Lord is good!
When we taste something, and find that it tastes really really good, then we want more and more of it. That's what we'll find with the Lord. If we've tasted religion, we won't like it. But if we've truly tasted of the goodness of God, we'll desire more and more of Him.
Lord, make me thirsty for You. And You'll be the Living Water and the pure Wine that I drink.
Lord, make me hungry for You. And you be that Bread of Life that feeds me. Mmmmmm!
Question for You: What does "Taste and See that the Lord is good" mean to you?

Get Grounded
Listening this past week to David Wolfe on-line I was really interested in what he had to say about getting grounded. I am not real knowledgeable in the sciences, and electricity is something I use without really understanding it. But what David had to say made sense to me.
Particularly since the invention of rubber soles and our houses being built off the ground and being furnished with carpets, etc., we have been suffering from a separation from the earth. Add to that all the appliances, wiring, computers, tv's etc that introduce EMF (electic-magnetic fields) that constantly bombard us, we should expect that there is something negatively affecting our own body's electric field.
I'll put some links here so if you are interested you can research some stuff on your own. I encourage you to. But I'm not really wanting to discuss the science stuff behind it, nor the controversy of whether EMF effect our health. Decide for yourself.

But I've been reflecting on some past experiences when I clearly remember a revitalized feeling when I was connected to the earth. Like walking for 4 days barefoot on Caye Caulker Island in Belize. Walking barefoot in the sand and the waves at any beach. Sleeping on the cool grass under a tree on a summer day. Swimming in lakes. Dangling my feet in the water while sitting on a wharf. Stresses seem to melt away. Creativity seems to flow.
Many people work in the garden because they recognize the therapeutic effects of getting their hands into the earth. Rauchelle says she greatly prefers running along trails where the tree branches hit her bare arms. Layne says she walks barefoot on the White Rock beach when she's stressed. I find solace soaking in a tub of water. Think of all the stories you've heard of people getting downloads of great ideas while standing under the water in the shower.
I don't remember hearing that God made sandals for Adam and Eve when he gave them clothes to wear. And I wonder what they slept on in the Garden? Likely, the earth, or something natural to make a little cushioning for themselves, like branches.
There's a few products one can use to help eliminate the effects of EMF in your house or workplace, or on your body. I'm not vouching for any of them. Currently we aren't using any of them. But I do have a suggestion that's free.
Especially since its summer in the northern hemisphere (except here on Cape Breton where we are), every day get outside in your barefeet, go for a walk at the beach barefoot, or work in your garden without work gloves. Encourage your dc to go barefoot in appropriate places where you are fairly confident that there aren't needles, glass, etc.
Question for You: Can you identify with that feeling of being grounded?
